Artificial tree

After having a gorgeous artificial Christmas tree a few years ago, I started to realize that maybe I didn’t need to have live plants afterall. I don’t have a very good reputation for keeping plants alive for too long. I even managed to kill a cactus once, which takes a considerable amount of talent. I was out shopping at a local craft store one afternoon when I noticed this huge bush-like tree sitting in a corner. It was almost as tall as I was, and looked very real. I touched the leaves just to see whether or not it was real, and discovered that the leaves were almost silky. I still had no clue as to whether or not it was real or fake. The saleslady informed me that it was indeed an artificial tree, and perfect for offices. Indeed, I agreed. In fact, I thought that it would be absolutely perfect for my office at work. I’d no longer have to leave myself post-it notes to remember to water my current plants. I stuffed it into my tiny car and took it home.

Days later, it was sitting in the sunny corner of my office, and my other living plants had been given to other office members. I’d had a few people comment on how nice my new tree was. I always smiled. No one had a clue that it was really an artificial tree. It was my little secret for the time being.

A week after I’d put the artificial tree in my office, I came in to find that there was a little bit of spilled water on the floor, next to the pot. I kneeled down to see what it was from, and saw that the soil for the artificial tree was wet. Someone had watered my artificial tree. I summoned my secretary later that morning to inquire as to whether or not it was her. She said that yes, it had been her. She explained that since she knew I didn’t have a green thumb and since it was such a beautiful tree, she hated to see it deteriorate. I laughed, much to her embarrassment. She blushed like crazy when I informed her that although the soil in the pot was real, it was an artificial tree. After a few moments, she laughed as well.

Getting an artificial tree for your home or office isn’t just a good idea – it is a great one. You don’t have to worry about not watering it or making sure it gets enough of sunlight. You can go away on vacation and not have to have someone come in to water your plants while you’re away. It can make a dull room suddenly have some life and less space. Plus, there is a chance that no one will even suspect that it is an artificial tree. They might even offer to water it for you.
